- pools without covers
- lawns and exotic plants
- leaking or inefficient irrigation systems
To avoid water waste:
- use Sydney Water’s WaterRight Gardens webtool to develop specific watering advice for each of your green areas
- plant indigenous species or low water use species. Sydney Water’s Plant Selector can also help you choose appropriate plants for your area
- use a drip irrigation watering system
- use products and other tips compiled by Sydney Water, Smart Approved Watermark and Irrigation Australia to reduce your water needs and maintain healthy gardens & grounds
- install a rainwater tank for garden irrigation
- consider rain gardens to take advantage of stormwater
- use permaculture design principles
